Originally from British-Columbia, drummer Hans Verhoeven has lived and worked in some of the most vibrant music scenes in Canada. Recognized for his authenticity and joy of play, he has accompanied Oscar Stagnaro, Brandi Disterheft, Dave Turner and Hugh Fraser amongst others. Currently living in Montreal, Hans can be heard with Vanessa Rodrigues, Joel Miller, Dave Turner, Paul Shrofel, Kim Zombik and Sara Latendresse. He holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University where he studied with Chris McCann, and has since begun exploring Afro-Cuban and Afro-Peruvian percussion with Rafael Zaldivar and Kullak Viger Rojas.
Diplômé de l’Université McGill où il a fait ses études avec Chris McCann, le batteur Hans Verhoven est originaire de la Colombie-Britannique. Il a évolué sur les scènes musicales les plus éclatantes du Canada. Reconnu pour son jeu vif et authentique, il a travaillé notamment avec Oscar Stagnaro, Brandi Disterheft, PJ Perry ainsi que Hugh Fraser. Actuellement basé à Montréal, on peut l’entendre jouer avec Vanessa Rodrigues, Joel Miller, Dave Turner, Paul Shrofel, Kim Zombik et Sara Latendresse. Il explore aussi la percussion afro-cubaine et afro-péruvienne avec Rafael Zaldivar et Kullak Viger Rojas.

The Rafael Zaldivar Trio featuring Sébastien Pellerin on bass and Hans Verhoeven on drums opened for the Dave Binney Quartet at the competition finals. The group was thereafter awarded second place.
